SilentKnight is still extremely useful and greatly appreciated as an update status monitoring tool! Thanks. However, the update hadn’t installed yet (unsurprisingly), so I used the normal mechanism to do it.Īll in all, I think I may forego using the “Install all updates” button in future. So, two things: I thought it was strange that it took much longer (20 minutes versus maybe an hour when it still seemed busy) and I couldn’t tell if it was actually updating wouldn’t that have needed a restart to begin? I was reluctant to break it off, because how would that work out if it was in the middle of updating after all? In the end, after an hour or so, I did manually restart while SilentKnight still seemed busy and happily all seemed fine after that. I thought I’d give updating by SilentKnight a try on my second Mac and clicked “Install all updates” but, like it says in the reference, the only feedback is the spinner and it took a LONG time much longer than on my first Mac where I used the normal update mechanism, which downloads and then restarts to start the install. This worked fine, and even ran the new MRT for its initial scans just as if it had been installed by softwareupdate. For the record, on this occasion I used the latest version of SilentKnight to download the MRT update then installed it manually by double-clicking the Installer package. Immediately after updating you’ll want to run SilentKnight or LockRattler to restore MRT to its current version 1.69.3. One significant feature of this update is that it reverts MRT to an old version, around 1.62. This suggests that this quite hefty update is mainly a new kernel, which isn’t bad for more than a GB! There don’t appear to be any firmware updates, at least not for Macs with a T2 chip. There are no changes in version or build number of any of the bundled apps, nor are there in any of the significant contents of /System/Library. Details of the three security fixes it includes are given here. As soon as I have a link to the standalone installer package I will update this article, but as of 2105 UTC I can’t find any. It’s currently available via Software Update. All three of these are currently being exploited in the wild, which explains the urgency in patching them. Apple has just released macOS Catalina 10.15.7 Supplemental Update, which weighs in at around 1.2 GB and includes important security fixes for two kernel vulnerabilities and a FontParser bug.

So, like any highly-trained scientist, he Googled it, and learned that Senestech had recently begun marketing its product based on natural triptolide for rat control. Yet having discovered a way to produce the triptolide in the lab, Andersen-Ranberg realized he had no idea what to do with it. “You feed sugar to yeast, and you get this precious substance on the other side.” He has figured out a way to get common yeast, injected with the proper genetic code, to grow triptolide. That’s where Danish biologist Johan Andersen-Ranberg comes in. Each plant produces so little triptolide that, in the region, the substance is worth 15 times its weight in gold. Used in traditional Chinese medicine, triptolide is derived from a rare plant called Thunder God Vine that grows in the country’s mountains and is mostly harvested by hand. Until now, the labor and expense involved in attaining one of the product’s active ingredients had also been a challenge. Rats learn to avoid bait that makes them sick and can even build up resistance to some rodenticides. Chemical poisons cause pain before death and are toxic to other animals who might ingest them, and their residue can contaminate soil and water. Traps can be cruel-glue traps often leave the animal starving for days before dying, while rats caught in snap traps will chew off their own limbs to free themselves. And global warming brought on by humans has also boosted populations warmer winters allow rats to breed during months that were previously too cold.Īgainst this rising army of rodents, most available weapons fall short ethically, environmentally, efficiently, or all of the above. “Besides being spread by humans from their native range in Asia, they benefit from human constructions-first granaries, then cities have provided food sources and perfect habitat for rats.”Įven the signature human invention of plastic has contributed, by making a lot more food accessible to rats now that trash is generally put out in flimsy bags rather than sturdy metal cans. “It’s one of the species that has benefitted from the success of humans,” says biologist Naia Morueta-Holme, professor of macroecology at the University of Copenhagen. Whoever Ron was, he not only took very good care of his guitar, but he seems to have been a ‘strictly rhythm’ kind of guy. The same quality standards and with the same materials that make Stratocasters and Telecasters of the late 1950s so desirable.Ĭomplete with its rare original case and a strap and cable of the era, the Musicmaster’s original Desert Sand finish is in fine condition, while the very small amount of wear on its gorgeous V-shaped neck is concentrated in the first position. However, as this ’57 Musicmaster proves, even instruments intended for beginners were manufactured in Fullerton to The Musicmaster (single pickup) and Duo-Sonic (twin pickup) were introduced as 22.5-inch scale student models midway through 1956. Personalised with the type of self-adhesive letters often used on American luggage and mailboxes back in the day, ‘Ron’ is about as fine an example of an original Fender Musicmaster as you are likely to encounter. I mean, there aren’t too many 1950s Fenders within reach financially, particularly sweet ones like this. This instrument was already sold when we saw it on the wall at ATB Guitars, but it was simply too cool not to grab for a photoshoot before it was collected by its new owner. Vintage Guitar did a full article on these guitars not long ago and they seem to be increasing in value. The hard shell case is original and in nice condition. The power transformer has a date of the 39th week of 1964. This amp dates to early 1965, as the output transformer dates to the fifth week of 1965. For sale is one of the most acclaimed small combo amps, the Fender Vibro-Champ. The upside is that the guitar stays in tune like a champ! West Islip, New York, 117, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I will find and include but no guarantee. The original tuners were replaced due to crumbling, and I have them somewhere around. It sounds great, really cuts through and sings. Frets are in good shape, never been a buzzing issue The pickup is a 70s era mustang with the original pickup cover. The neck is pencil dated to 1957 and both pots are original. That said, it is in very good condition with only a few dents and such, please look at the pictures carefully. The body was obviously stripped of the desert sand paint and refinished at some point in its distant past, but I think it looks really cool and I haven’t had to worry about keeping it perfect. I have done my best to accurately describe it to the very best of my knowledge based on all the items you see in the total descriptions here, so the potential buyer please read those carefully. This vintage 1957 Fender Musicmaster has a particularly killer maple neck that feels incredible and a wonderful vintage Fender tone.Neck is pencil dated 3-57.It features a red refinish that looks real nice, it looks like that rare See Through Mahogany finish Fender did that is very rare. This is a one owner, me, original beautiful bass guitar. It is an amazing little guitar and the neck, in particular, is stellar. Vintage Fender MusicMaster 1973 short scale bass guitar works great. I bought this super cool player’s grade Musicmaster as one of my first vintage guitars years ago from Thunder Road guitars. 11/22/2023 0 Comments Images of silo housesEverybody who comes here - including the Governor of Kansas - says it is one of the neatest things they have ever seen. “It turned out far better than our expectations. “Our grain bin office/scale house/residence is just cool,” Louise says. It serves as a scale house (where grain trucks are weighed) on their farm near Healy, Kan. Louise and Vance Ehmke turned a steel grain bin into a structure where they can live and work. Overall, it was great living in a round structure, and telling people you live in a grain bin makes for some great reactions.” “For the most part, it worked pretty well, but careful consideration is needed around designing windows and doors. “Living in a grain bin was a pretty novel experience,” Liloia says. “Even with all the custom work, Montesilo came in below $200 per square foot - well below average building costs for the area,” Stein says.īrian Liloia lived in a straw-bale-insulated grain bin at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage in Rutledge, Mo. We’ve had incredible brainstorming and musical jam sessions in the house.”Īnd building the house, even using new steel bins, turned out to be a good financial decision. “It does something to your head - it’s soothing and inspirational. “There’s a certain non-empirical value,” he says. “In 50 years, my shiny steel home will only mellow to a gray patina, but I won’t have to paint it.” After moving in, he realized there were also advantages to living in a round structure. “My main motivation in building a house from a galvanized steel bin was that I never wanted to pick up a paintbrush again,” he says. Stein chose steel because it’s unique, eco-friendly and low maintenance. “Experimentally, when no extra heat is applied, the lowest recorded interior temperature was 62 degrees Fahrenheit in midwinter.” “Even when indulging myself with warm morning floors, my heating bills have been a fraction of what it would cost to heat an 1,800-square-foot house in this harsh Utah environment at 7,100 feet,” he says. For added comfort, Stein installed electric radiant heat in the floors. A computer controls draperies to retain the heat at night. The windows allow winter sun to warm the rubber-covered concrete floor. Stein’s structure utilizes passive solar heat that’s assisted with computer technology. Montesilo is easily one of the strongest and tightest buildings in the county.” To insulate, we sprayed 2 inches of low- VOC foam against the metal and followed that with blown-in fiberglass insulation. After ‘talling’ (raising) the silos, we cut our way in and framed the interior with 2-by-6s on 1-foot centers. We encourage readers to explore unique uses for metal grain bins - especially used bins - and we talked with several people who live in these structures to learn more about why they like their grain bin houses.Įarl Stein, of Summit County, Utah, says, “My grain bin home, ‘Montesilo’ (inspired by Monticello), is designed to be energy efficient. There are all sorts of interesting ways to use individual bins or group them together to make an attractive, comfortable home. After the bin is in place, it requires virtually no maintenance. Architects and builders have started to use these durable, inexpensive structures to construct grain bin homes, storage buildings, offices and barns. On thousands of farms across the continent, round metal grain bins (called “grain silos” in some regions) are standing empty or being torn down and sold for scrap because they’re no longer in use. This energy-efficient grain bin house uses foam and fiberglass insulation, plus computer-assisted passive solar heating.
